Imaging artifact precompensation for spatially multiplexed 3-D displays

Abstract: We describe a projection system that presents a 20 megapixel image using a single XGA SLM and time-division multiplexing. The system can be configured as a high-resolution 2-D display or a highly multi-view horizontal parallax display. In this paper, we present a technique for characterizing the light transport function of the display and for precompensating the image for the measured transport function. The techniques can improve the effective quality of the display without modifying its optics. Precompensati… Show more

“…This approach incorporates a pixel offset that uses square image blocks of sizes from 8 x 8 to 256 x 256 pixels. Napoli, et al [23], on the other hand, present an approach for still imagery, for which they claim the capability of producing a 25x resolution enhancement using. This approach uses similar technique, but incorporates a greater number of sub-frames.…”

“…Prior display enhancement work has included the display of sub-frames at a higher rate than the source video [17,18] and a technique for still imagery [19] which also uses sub-frames. A variety of work has been performed both in the fixed overlay and movement based categories.…”

“…The use of computed sub-frames that are displayed at higher-than-source rates [20,21], as well as techniques for still images, using sub-frames [22], have also previously been demonstrated. Prior work on overlaid coloration sources has included the use of optical pixel sharing [23], display super-sampling [24], and superimposition techniques for projectors [25] and conventional displays [26].…”
