Immediate Placement and Loading of Maxillary Single- Tooth Implants: A 3-Year Prospective Study of Marginal Bone Level

Abstract: Immediate loading technique using the final abutment directly eliminated the need for a second stage surgery and prevented interruption of soft and hard tissue at implant neck, which resulted in better soft tissue response and reduced marginal bone loss. Clinical significance: Immediately loaded implants, in fresh extraction sockets by insertion of a provisional restoration on the titanium abutment without any later manipulation, helped to protect the initially forming blood clot and presented a template for s… Show more

“…To the author's knowledge this is the first report analyzing the OAOT approach over a five‐year period. Considering a three‐year period, results are similar to the ones obtained by Berberi et al They achieved a medium bone loss of 0.26mm, similar to the 0.25mm obtained in the same period with the present research. Canullo et al in a research analyzing the OAOT technique over 3 years reported a 0.34mm of bone resorption, slightly superior to the data obtained in the present work.…”

Five of them were animal studies[ 7 , 35 38 ], two were in vitro studies[ 39 , 40 ], one is a review[ 33 ] and 11 were case reports and case series[ 32 , 41 50 ]. One study [ 29 ] reported implants with external connection and non-platform switching.…”

“…However, when using conventional prefabricated healing abutments, the surrounding soft tissues may be unfavorable for receiving the final restorations . Knowing that an appropriate emergence profile of an implant‐supported restoration is important for optimizing hygiene and esthetics, it is fundamental to obtain harmonious soft tissue architecture around dental implants prior the final impression . In order to achieve this goal, gradual modifications by means of provisional restorations are usually needed, which demands a larger number of appointments and a longer chairside time …”
