Immediate post‐operative rehabilitation after decoronation. A systematic review

Abstract: Background/Aims Decoronation is currently considered the best treatment option for ankylosed teeth and discrepancies in the alveolar bone, particularly in childhood and adolescence. The loss of a front tooth creates aesthetic, functional, and psychological distress in patients and their parents. The aim of this study was to analyze the types of restorations provided after decoronation, their suitability, durability, and follow up until insertion of the final restoration. “…Decoronation of infrapositioned ankylosed teeth is considered the gold standard treatment for young growing patients [26] and is a well-established, efficient, and predictable approach aimed at preserving the alveolar bone in children who are still facing facial growth in order to prevent bone deformations in cases of ankylotic teeth [16], while most alternative techniques, such as surgical luxation, orthodontic distraction, and auto-transplantation, have been associated with an unpredictable prognosis in ankylotic teeth [25].…”

“…When choosing the type of restoration, several aspects should be taken into account, such as the patient's age, hygiene habits, growth rate, the degree of development of dental arches and whether orthodontic treatment is necessary. Publications have shown that a removable partial denture and an adhesive bridge using a cut-off crown are the most commonly used (17). This is probably due to the fact that both solutions are easier to apply in a dental office.…”

“…Ważne jest, aby u rosnących pacjentów, niezależnie od zastosowanego rozwiązania, zachować niewielką przestrzeń między szczytem wyrostka zębodołowego, pod którym jest pozostałość korzenia, a powierzchnią dodziąsłową korony, tak aby umożliwić pionowy wzrost kości wyrostka (17).…”

“…The treatment cycle of this program is very long. During the waiting period, alveolar bone will be absorbed in large quantities, which can cause gingival atrophy and affect the repair effect 6 . Immediate implantation is the treatment of implant placement after tooth extraction, which has the advantages of short treatment cycle and high safety.…”
