Immersive Vr Visualizations by Vfive Part 2: Applications

Abstract: VFIVE is a scientific visualization application for CAVE-type immersive virtual reality systems. The source codes are freely available. VFIVE is used as a research tool in various VR systems. It also lays the groundwork for developments of new visualization software for CAVEs. In this paper, we pick up five CAVE systems in four different institutions in Japan. Applications of VFIVE in each CAVE system are summarized. Special emphases will be placed on scientific and technical achievements made possible by VFIV… Show more

“…These include Visualizer [21], ML2VR (MATLAB) [20], Amira, ParaView, VisIt, AVS/Express, and others. We too have developed a general-purpose visualization program, VFIVE, for CAVEs [22,23,24], the main application of which is also CFD. However, there is no definitive application program for scientific visualization in CAVEs.…”

“…It is also used as a base code set for further developments of advanced visualizations. Those applications and scientific achievements made possible by VFIVE in several CAVE systems are described in our another paper [18].…”

“…Previously, we had developed a general-purpose visualization program for CAVE-type VR systems [9][10][11]. This program, VFIVE, provides various visualization methods for scalar/vector fields, such as isocontouring, colored slicing, volume rendering, vector glyphs, stream lines, and particle tracers.…”

“…This program, VFIVE, provides various visualization methods for scalar/vector fields, such as isocontouring, colored slicing, volume rendering, vector glyphs, stream lines, and particle tracers. VFIVE has been used for visualizations of magnetic reconnection [12], Earth's magnetosphere [13], geodynamo [14], general circulation models of atmosphere [11], and others.…”
