Immunomodulatory Effects of Probiotics in the Intestinal Tract

Abstract: The intestinal microbiota is the largest source of microbial stimulation that exerts both harmful and beneficial effects on human health. The interaction between probiotic and enterocytes is the initiating event in immunomodulation and merits particular attention. The effects of probiotic is strain dependent and for each new probiotic strain, profiles of cytokines secreted by lymphocytes, enterocytes or dendritic cells that come in contact with the strain should be systematically established. To evaluate the e… Show more

“…The immune status was closely associated with inflammation which was mainly regulated by inflammatory cytokines. TNF, IL, and TGF are cytokines that play a vital role in body immunity (Delcenserie et al, 2008). In this study, a high level of CSM (CSM60 diet) in the diet markedly elevated the mRNA expression of IL-10, IL-8, C4, Hsp70, and IκB-α in the intestine and kidney.…”

“…The differentiation of naive T cells into different types of cell lines like TH-17, TH-2, TH-1, CD8+ repressor, and regulatory T cell depends upon the interaction of DC with specific pattern recognition factors. A study states that cytophage -bacteroides required for development of TH17 cells in lamina propria, which, in turn, maintains the balance between regulatory T-cell populations and TH-17 ( Foligne et al., 2007 ; Delcenserie et al., 2008 ; Zeuthen et al., 2008 ). Evidence proved that when germ-free mice were colonized with Bacteroides fragilis NCTC9343, an immense restoration was observed in the number of CD4+ CD45Rb T-cell populations.…”

“…When the bacterial populations are stabilized, and they image the adult's gut microbiome composition, the intestinal immune system is considered to be 'mature.' Usually, this takes place around the second year of life (Delcenserie et al, 2008). In the gut-lung axis conceptualization, probiotic bacteria settled in the gut wield an influence on respiratory allergies and can relieve the symptoms.…”
