Abstract: In mammals, non-image-forming visual functions, including circadian photoentrainment and the pupillary light reflex, are thought to be mediated by the combination of rods, cones, and the melanopsin-expressing intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs).
