The Lancang-Mekong River, which traverses approximately 5,000 km in Asia, is an important international river flowing across six countries, that is, China and Myanmar at its upper reaches, Lao and Thailand at its midstream, and Vietnam and Cambodia downstream the river basin (Figure 1a).
