Impact of algal biodiesel and its diesel blends on performance and emission characteristics of compression ignition engine

Abstract: The current situation demands for the production of a more efficient diesel engine fuel replacement due to the increased fuel consumption, diesel fuel exhaustion, and, eventually, social and economic repercussions. Extensive to the point research has been done where it is still looking at prospective alternatives for diesel. In this scenario, the internal combustion engine's performance is a critical point to guarantee an effective and efficient alternative fuel. In this paper, a bibliographic review of the mo… Show more

“…Transesterification is primarily used to transform vegetable to biodiesel, which can there after utilized as diesel engine fuel. [20][21][22][23] Biodiesel is defined as mono-alkyl esters having long chain fatty acids derivative of vegetable oils or animal fats that meet the ASTM standard to utilized as fuel in diesel engines. 24 Kalayasiri et al investigate 364 different plant seed oils as potential diesel engine fuels, both in natural oil form and also as fatty acid methyl esters.…”

“… 24 There was an increased value of brake power, an increased value of BSFC, and a decreased value of BTE, when a diesel engine was fueled with algal biofuel and its blend. 25 The use of hydrous ethanol, which resembles biofuel, can be substituted for by blending it with gasoline and diesel and adding other additives. Hydrous ethanol has been used into combustion processes like (GPI + EDI), HCCI, RCCI, and PCCI, lowering hazardous pollutants like NO X and soot with good energy conversion efficiency.…”
