Impact of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) on Reproductive Health of Human

Abstract: At present, endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have gained attention in human pathophysiology, and many studies have yet been conducted to explain the mechanism of these chemical compounds on endocrine and reproductive dysfunctions. In human the maximum studies focus towards the exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals and their disorders on different endocrine axises though sufficient information are not available on reproductive systems in human. A huge number of EDCs resulting the interference of the n… Show more

“…[2] Environmental chemicals with endocrine-disrupting capabilities could lead to significantly reduced sperm count and quality in animals and humans. [2][3][4] Atrazine (ATZ), for example, is an agricultural herbicide with endocrine-disrupting effects on the testis and possesses the ability to produce oxidative stress in the gonads. [5][6][7][8] In males, atrazine is a gonadotoxin.…”

“…FSH also stimulated Sertoli cells to produce androgenbinding protein (ABP) which binds testosterone to stimulate the development of spermatogonia. Decreases in testosterone and FSH affected testicular structures, such as the diameter of the seminiferous tubules and spermatogenic cells (Ghosh et al, 2022).…”

“…Aneuploidy, caused by aberrant segregation of chromosomes, can lead to miscarriage or birth defects, such as trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), and trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome) [64]. Exposure to EDC, aging, and lifestyle factors can contribute to aneuploidy of the oocytes [65,66]. Aging has also been associated with decreased expression of key genes involved in the DNA repair of DSBs in human and mouse oocytes [67].…”
