Impact of Geometrical Imperfections on Estimation of Buckling and Limit Loads in a Silo Segment Using the Vibration Correlation Technique

Abstract: The paper examines effectiveness of the vibration correlation technique which allows determining the buckling or limit loads by means of measured natural frequencies of structures. A steel silo segment with a corrugated wall, stiffened with cold-formed channel section columns was analysed. The investigations included numerical analyses of: linear buckling, dynamic eigenvalue and geometrically static non-linear problems. Both perfect and imperfect geometries were considered. Initial geometrical imperfections in… Show more

“…The imperfection measurement of existing silos is another practical approach, as shown in [12]. However, it is efficient to employ a professional scanning method for the purpose of quantifying the realistic geometric imperfections [152]. Ding et al [31] one of the first comprehensive measuring techniques using conventional survey instrumentation, and specifically designed surface profile measurement apparatus.…”

“…The grain cylinder was divided mainly into shallow and vertical grain cylinders. Vertical grain cylinders have the advantages of easy storage and release of grains and large storage capacity and are widely used in large farms and grain storage enterprises [26]. The vertical grain cylinder is composed mainly of a cylindrical grain storage cylinder and hopper.…”
