Impact of Green Extraction on Curcuminoid Content, Antioxidant Activities and Anti-Cancer Efficiency (In Vitro) from Turmeric Rhizomes (Curcuma longa L.)

Abstract: Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) powder is widely used as a spice and seasoning in Asian countries. This study investigated the effect of turmeric extracts on the anticancer activity of Huh7 and HCT 116 cells. The curcumin bioactive compounds were extracted using various methods such as microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and traditional extraction (TDE). The yield of dried extracts from MAE was found to be the highest at 17.89%, followed by UAE and TDE, with 11.34% and 5.54%, … Show more

“…Curcumin, a widely applied natural polyphenol mainly derived from CHMs (e.g., Crocus sativus L., and Curcuma longa L.) [ 81 , 82 ], has been reported to have promising pharmacologic activities in IBD therapy [ 83 ]. The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties of curcumin endow it with an enormous advantage in modulating the gut microbiota and alleviating oxidative stress and inflammation, thus protecting the intestinal mucosal barrier.…”

“…The rhizomes was ground by a hammer mill machine and passed through a 1.0 mm sieve. We utilized the extraction process protocol described in our previous study 24 . Brie y, 5 g of turmeric powder was extracted in 95% (v/v) ethanol (100 mL) using microwave-assisted extraction at 800 W for 3 minutes.…”
