Impact of laparoscopic anterior 270° fundoplication on the quality of life and symptoms profile of neurodevelopmentally delayed versus neurologically unimpaired children and their parents

“…Although NI children are more susceptible to peri-and post-operative complications, it appears that a good quality of life (QOL) and high index of satisfaction can be achieved for both NI and non-NI patients who undergo fundoplications [16,17]. In the pediatric population, the use of anti-reflux medications generally decreases after a Nissen fundoplication but may remain relatively unchanged in NI children [18].…”

“…Furthermore, age at the time of operation is a significant predictor for improvement in HRQoL after LARS. Previous studies also showed a significant increase in HRQoL [1012]. In two studies [10, 11], a questionnaire designed for adults had been modified for pediatric use and the third study only used parental proxy report.…”

“…These studies almost all showed that HRQoL improves after LARS [79]. In the pediatric population, only few studies have focused on this outcome parameter [1012]. HRQoL in these studies improves; however, none of these studies have used pediatric validated questionnaires.…”
