“…Furthermore, an objective comparison of patRoon with other NTA workflows is currently being performed as part of a collaborative trial organized by the NORMAN Network [ 109 ]. Recent applications of complete environmental NTA studies performed with patRoon are already described in several publications [ 7 , 12 , 14 , 71 , 110 ].…”

“…patRoon has been under development for several years and has already been applied in a variety of studies, such as the characterization of organic matter [ 71 ], elucidation of transformation products of biocides [ 7 , 12 ], assessment of removal of polar organics by reversed-osmosis drinking water treatment [ 14 ] and the investigation of endocrine disrupting chemicals in human breast milk [ 110 ]. patRoon will be maintained to stay compatible with its various dependencies and further development is planned.…”

“…In previous work, when DBNPA as added to fine paper machines, we discovered that 99–100% was actually degraded before the machine effluent was discharged into freshwater (Wiatr and Burns, unpublished data). Subsequently, DBNPA was discovered to degrade in cooling tower water by a different technique; the acute toxicity of DBNPA was less toxic than the literature has stated [ 27 ]. Our laboratory and field study results, moreover, agree with these findings.…”

“…Water Nexus combines the development of digital tools for mapping, management and control of fresh water resources with the development of innovative water treatment technology for saline industrial wastewater. A substantial part of Water Nexus is dedicated to developing green and grey technologies that facilitate the reuse of CTW, such as constructed wetlands (CWs) (Wagner et al, 2020b(Wagner et al, , 2020c(Wagner et al, , 2021, advanced oxidation processes for the electrochemical degradation of organics (Bruninghoff et al, 2019(Bruninghoff et al, , 2021Saha et al, 2020a) and nanofiltration (NF) with novel layer-by-layer membranes that allow ion-specific removal (Scheepers et al, 2020(Scheepers et al, , 2021. Recently, the use of hybrid pre-treatment and desalination systems for seawater desalination has shown to increase the water recovery and lower the energy requirements for treatment (Pan et al, 2018b).…”
