Impact Resistance of Polypropylene Fibre-Reinforced Alkali–Activated Copper Slag Concrete

Abstract: Copper slag (CS) is produced during the smelting process to separate copper from copper ore. The object of the experimental research is to find the optimum percentage of CS and PPF volume fraction when CS replaces fine aggregate, and PPF volume fraction when subjected to impact loading. Copper slag was incorporated as 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% with PPF of 0.2–0.8% with 0.2% increment. The number of blows on failure of the specimen increases as the fibre volume increases. In addition, the energy absorption of… Show more

“…The amalgamation of powder content for each concrete has a different effect on power consumption. In most cases, the combination of cement and fly ash consumes more power during the mixing process, while the combination of cement and GGBS consumes the least power [21,26,47,48]. When observing these three grades of concrete, it can be seen that the combination of powder content is another factor that affects power consumption.…”

“…There is a lack of knowledge concerning the new materials used in concrete manufacturing. The increase in HPC and SCC productivity provides an opportunity to use new materials in the concrete production industry [12,26,27]. Concrete manufacturers should pay attention to the characteristics and performance of new materials and use appropriate mixing times to obtain high-quality concrete.…”

“…Thus, the analysis of the results suggests the possibility of using waste milled for 10 min as an active mineral additive, as well as to give better formability to the mixture and its micro-reinforcement to obtain fiber-reinforced concrete [ 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 , 60 , 61 , 62 , 63 , 64 , 65 ]. The presence of quartz in the amorphous phase causes high solubility in saturated alkaline solutions of the hydrated binder and active interaction with Ca(OH) 2 released as a result of the hydration of clinker minerals.…”

“…The μ value shown in the figure is based on exposure to photons at a 0.662 MeV energy level. Additives such as silica fume [ 130 ], GGBS [ 131 , 132 , 133 , 134 ], rice husk ash [ 135 , 136 ], palm oil fuel ash [ 137 , 138 , 139 , 140 , 141 ], and fly ash [ 142 , 143 , 144 , 145 , 146 , 147 , 148 , 149 , 150 , 151 ] serve as a partial cement replacement, which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete [ 152 , 153 , 154 , 155 , 156 , 157 ]. The 60% increase in the fly ash replacement for cement in concrete reduced the μ value by 10% [ 63 ].…”
