The objective of this study is to investigate a hybrid reinforcement method for concrete beams, which consists of steel rebars and HDPE (high-density polyethylene) uniaxial geogrids, by developing an experimental comparative investigation between utilizing different grades and layers of HDPE uniaxial geogrids as the primary reinforcement or as extra reinforcement to the steel rebars. The experiments for this investigation included 24 reinforced concrete beams in order to provide rich data for the flexural behavior analysis and design approach. For a detailed analysis, strain gauges were connected to steel rebars and HDPE uniaxial geogrids. Analysis of the results shows that the hybrid reinforcement method using steel rebars and HDPE uniaxial geogrids provided greater benefits (such as energy absorption capacity, ductility index, ultimate load, and steel-yield load) and more effective utilization (such as better flexural performance, lower deformation values corresponding to the steel-yield load, and greater benefits to cost ratios) than utilizing HDPE uniaxial geogrids as the primary reinforcement or utilizing the conventional reinforcement of steel rebars. Simple design equations were added to calculate the flexural bending capacity, the necessary HDPE uniaxial geogrids' grade, and the number of layers utilizing the HDPE uniaxial geogrids as the primary reinforcement or as extra reinforcement to the steel rebars.

This paper aims to innovate a hybrid reinforcement system for concrete slabs, consisting of geogrids and steel bars, by conducting an experimental comparative study between using different types, tensile strengths, and layers of geogrids as additional reinforcement to steel bars in comparison to conventional steel-reinforced concrete control slab. These concrete slabs were tested under a four-point loading system until they failed due to bending. As an addition, strain gauges were attached to the concrete slabs bottom reinforcement (geogrids and steel bars) to provide a close examination of geogrids and steel bars as a hybrid reinforcement system. Results show that the innovated hybrid reinforcement system of uniaxial geogrids and steel bars more preferred as concrete slabs reinforcement as it provided more benefits values (including, but not limited to, initial-peak load, steel-yield load, post-peak load, displacement ductility index, and energy absorption capacity) and more efficient utilization (including, but not limited to, higher benefits to cost values and better flexural performance) than the case of using conventional reinforcement of steel bars and the cases of using triaxial geogrids as additional reinforcement to the steel bars; however, triaxial geogrids provide lower deflection values and higher first-crack load values.

This research goal is the adding of pozzolana as rough aggregate in concrete. Pozzolans of Jabl Onyzh have been described as the major supply from Jordan. It is often used in the place of a conservative aggregate in frivolous concrete. A practical examination was carried out on the resistance of Pozzolana Lightweight Concrete (PLWC) with diverse ratios (35 and 50%) of pozzolana from the whole size of admixture order to ascertain its impact. In this study, a design mix was used with several A mix design was determined through various experimental mixtures to make certain that the pozzolanas lightweight concrete will be able to attain the needed fundamental performance. A self-fabricated was used to simulate a low-velocity projectile effect on the slab specimens was aroused with the use of a self-invented drop-weight impact test rig. Twofold factors were examined to determine the impact resistance on slab (300×300 mm) with diverse viscosity (20, 25 and 30 mm) support, with pozzolana content and concrete thickness. The impact resistance of concrete decreases with the addition of pozzolana but progresses with slab thickness. However, the influence is more prominent for the final crack resistance than for the first crack resistance. When slab thicknesses were compared with each other, the outcome was that 25 cm has a general superior performance in lightweight concrete for impact resistance.
