Energy is an essential factor in overall efforts to achieve sustainable development. Countries striving to this end are seeking to reassess their energy systems with a view toward planning energy programs and strategies in line with sustainable development goals and objectives. Turkey's demand for energy and electricity is increasing rapidly. Since 1990, energy consumption has increased at an annual average rate of 4.3%. Turkey is heavily dependent on expensive imported energy resources that place a big burden on the economy and air pollution is becoming a great environmental concern in the country. As would be expected, the rapid expansion of energy production and consumption has brought with it a wide range of environmental issues at the local, regional and global levels. With respect to global environmental issues, Turkey's carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions have grown along with its energy consumption. States have played a leading role in protecting the environment by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). In this regard, renewable energy resources appear to be the one of the most efficient and effective solutions for clean and sustainable energy development in Turkey. Turkey's geographical location has several advantages for extensive use of most of these renewable energy sources. This article presents a review of the potential and utilization of the renewable energy sources in Turkey.

ÖZETEkonomik faaliyetlerin temel girdisi olan enerji ülke ekonomisi ve yerel ekonomik büyüme için önemli bir unsurdur. Sosyal ve ekonomik hayatın her aşaması için vazgeçilmez bir unsur olan enerji, yenilenemeyen ve yenilenebilir enerji kaynakları olmak üzere ikiye ayrılmaktadır. Fosil kaynaklı enerjilerin tükenecek olması ülkelerin çevre dostu yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarına yönelmelerine neden olmuştur. Bu gerçekten hareketle yenilenebilir enerjilerin bir türü olan ve TRA1 Bölgesi'nde (Erzurum, Erzincan ve Bayburt) zengin bir şekilde bulunan biyokütle enerjisi kaynaklarına dayalı olarak gerçekleştirilecek tüketim bölgenin sosyoekonomik yapısına olumlu katkı yapacak ve yenilenemeyen enerjilere alternatif oluşturacak niteliktedir. TRA1 Bölgesi iklim şartlarından dolayı ısınmak amaçlı fosil yakıtlara aşırı bağımlı bir bölgedir. Bu sebeple bu çalışma, TRA1 Bölgesi'nde yerel kaynaklara dayalı olarak üretilebilecek biyokütle enerjisinin (BE) fosil yakıtlara alternatif oluşturup oluşturmayacağını tanımsal analizlerle açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır. Tanımsal analizler yapılmasında, biyokütle kaynaklarına ilişkin istatistiki veri bulma sıkıntısı etkili olmuştur. Bu amaçla çalışmada, TRA1 Bölgesi'ndeki hayvansal ve bitkisel biyokütle enerjisi potansiyeli; hayvan ve bitki miktarları, atık miktarları, atıklardan elde edilebilecek teorik ve ekonomik biyokütle enerjisi miktarları gibi göstergeler açısından tablolar ve grafikler yardımıyla incelenmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda, TRA1 Bölgesi'nin BE potansiyelinin konutlarda ve iş yerlerinde ısınmak amaçlı kullanılan yenilenemez enerji kaynaklarına iyi bir alternatif oluşturacağı görülmüştür. Ayrıca analiz sonuçları, TRA1 Bölgesi'ne yönelik enerji yatırımlarının yerel ekonomik büyümeye daha fazla katkı sağlayacağını göstermiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Biyokütle Enerjisi, TRA1 Bölgesi, Yenilenebilir Enerjiler, Yenilenemez enerjiler ABSTRACT Energy, which is an essential input for economic activities, is a crucial element for national and regional economic growth. Energy, which an indespensable factor for every step of social and economic life, is divided into two categories as renewable and non-renewable energy resources. Countries tend to use environment-friendly renewable energy resources because of the fact that fossil fuel will be fully consumed. The consumption based on biomass energy resource (a kind of renewable energy and abound in TRA1 Region (Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt)), will affect positively to this region's social and economic structure and become an alternative for non-renewable energy resources. TRA1 Region is dependent on fossil fuel for heating because of climate conditions.
