Importance of Intumescence in Polymers Fire Retardancy

Abstract: This paper presents a review of works concerning the combustion of polymers with various intumescent systems. In this review intumescent systems are considered which undergo charring and foaming upon thermal degradation, forming a blown protective cellular char. The reasons are discussed of action of various additives in intumescent systems. The bibliography includes 38 references.
