Importance of the Adrenergic Nerve System in the Response of Gases in the Arterial Blood Following the Provoked Bronchospasm

Abstract: Following the inhalation of the beta-blocker-Propranolol (20 mg/ml-aerosol), there was an evident decrease (p < 0.05) of pO2 and a non-significant increase (p > 0.1) of pCO2. Beta2-adrenergcic stimulator-Hexoprenaline (2 inh x 0.2 mg), shows an protective effect in the decrease of pO2 (p < 0.05) following the bronchoconstriction being provoked by Propranolol. Alpha2-adrenergic blocker-Tolazoline (20 mg/ml-aerosol), has not shown a protective action in the bronchoconstriction caused with propranolol, therefore … Show more

“…By means of plethysmography, we can record the pressure-pressure curves as well as the pressure-air flow curve. In the case of changes in the respiratory system, increased hyperreactivity or COPD immediately requires the initiation of appropriate therapeutic treatment with the following drugs: adrenergic bronchodilators, anticholinergic substances, or methylxanthines [15][16][17][18]. Whereas anti-inflammatory drugs: corticosteroids, antihistamines, and antileukotrienes [19][20][21][22].…”

“…If changes in the respiratory system are found, an appropriate treatment with drugs is initiated immediately. Drugs used to treat bronchial asthma and COPD was: a. Bronchodilator and b. Anti-inflammatory drugs Bronchodilator drugs: Beta-2 adrenergic agonists, methylxanthines, and anticholinergic drugs [18][19][20].…”
