Importance of Trauma-Informed Practice in Evaluation of Children Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract: As part of a multidisciplinary adoption support clinic, Erin, a 5-year-old girl, adopted approximately 6 months before the clinic visit, presents for postadoption evaluation. Erin was born at full term. Her birth history was significant for reported maternal treatment for liver failure during pregnancy. “…Our study highlights the urgent need for communities—including healthcare providers and educators—to recognize the potential long‐term impact of ACEs on the academic outcomes of autistic children (Adaralegbe et al, 2022). The integration of trauma‐informed care into clinical practice for these children (Langenfeld et al, 2021), which includes understanding how ACEs can affect children's academic, social, and emotional development, would likely have a positive impact on educational outcomes.
