Background: Arthritis and rheumatism are among the commonest forms of chronic disease and, with an aging population, are set to become commoner still. Strictly speaking, arthritis means disease of the joints, while rheumatism is disease of the soft connective tissues which support and move the joints. There are many problems with current conventional treatment of arthritis and rheumatism. Although the new generation of NSAIDs is safer, they are only glorified painkillers, which do not affect the basic disease process. Similarly for rheumatoid arthritis, a range of powerful drugs is available but all of these have long and alarming lists of side effects. Thus the main aim of this research study is to prove the efficacy of Homoeopathy in managing cases of Osteoarthritis without any side-effects.Methods: 30 cases were selected fitting the case definition. Age group of 45-79 years was chosen for the study. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were laid down. Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and Kellgren and Lawrence system of classifying the severity of knee-osteoarthritis were used to assess the severity and outcome.Results: All the results were tabulated. Graphical presentation was made of all the observations. Scores before and after treatment was compared. It was found that there was vast difference in scores before and after treatment. Conclusions: Rhus tox was found to be effective in managing cases of Osteoarthritis of Knee Joint.

In this paper, we review research on homeopathy from four perspectives, focusing on reviews and some landmark studies. These perspectives are laboratory studies, clinical trials, observational studies, and theoretical work. In laboratory models, numerous effects and anomalies have been reported. However, no single model has been sufficiently widely replicated. Instead, researchers have focused on ever-new models and experiments, leaving the picture of scattered anomalies without coherence. Basic research, trying to elucidate a purported difference between homeopathic remedies and control solutions has also produced some encouraging results, but again, series of independent replications are missing. While there are nearly 200 reports on clinical trials, few series have been conducted for single conditions. Some of these series document clinically useful effects and differences against placebo and some series do not. Observational research into uncontrolled homeopathic practice documents consistently strong therapeutic effects and sustained satisfaction in patients. We suggest that this scattered picture has to do with the fourth line of research: lack of a good theory. Some of the extant theoretical models are reviewed, including placebo, water structure, silica contamination, energy models, and entanglement models. It emerges that local models, suggesting some change in structure in the solvent, are far from convincing. The nonlocal models proposed would predict that it is impossible to nail down homeopathic effects with direct experimental testing and this places homeopathy in a scientific dilemma. We close with some suggestions for potentially fruitful research.

Nas últimas décadas, a insatisfação com o cuidado médico contribuiu para a valorização de formações médicas mais abrangentes e humanizadas e para a busca das medicinas complementares e alternativas (CAM) como opções de tratamento. Desde 2003, o Curso de Pós-Graduação em Homeopatia da Faculdade de Medicina de Jundiaí (PGH-FMJ) oferece o ensino da Homeopatia para médicos, integrando-a à medicina convencional. Este estudo analisa as experiências de aprendizado em Homeopatia dos egressos das duas primeiras turmas do Curso de Especialização em Homeopatia da PGH-FMJ, totalizando 14 participantes. A metodologia compreendeu questionários de múltipla escolha, entrevistas não estruturadas e a técnica de História Oral. Os resultados revelaram que os egressos adquiriram competências para o exercício da especialidade, com ganhos nas dimensões afetivas, intelectivas e de atitude, maior satisfação profissional e pessoal, e melhora na relação médico-paciente.
