Improved Electrophoretic Deposition of Vertical Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes with Nanoscopic Electrostatic Lenses

Abstract: Under certain conditions, electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) onto metal at the base of nanoscale insulating windows can result in a single SWCNT per window, bonded at one end to the metal. During EPD charge, buildup on the insulator creates electrostatic lenses at the windows that control the trajectory of the SWCNTs. The aim is to develop a reproducible process for deposition of individual vertically oriented SWCNTs into each window to enable novel devices. The length of… Show more

“…Free energies of adsorption have been calculated with a QM approach. In some cases, MD was also implemented [ 138 ]. The target ligands for these studies were 17β-estradiol and its medically useful derivative 17α-ethinyl-estradiol [ 139 , 140 , 141 ].…”

“…Lastly, it is also possible to create CNT films with electric current assistance by electrophoresis (Figure 1f) [47,[63][64][65][66]. A conductive substrate is coated with CNTs when current is passed through their dispersion.…”

“…[143] Lakshmanan et al similarly used electrophoresis for fast deposition of vertically oriented individual SWCNTs in nanoscale holes through an EBL patterned insulator layer onto a metal substrate. [144] The patterning technique was very fast as deposition occurred in seconds. However, SWCNTs longer than the hole depth tended to form networks around the holes due to aggregation.…”
