Improved Field Use of a Simple Infrared Thermometer

Abstract: SUMMARY Theory and practice of a sensitive infrared surface thermometer are dealt with. Several problems arising in the field use of this simple instrument are discussed and explained in detail. It is concluded that with the indicated precautions the instrument is operating at optimum reliability and accuracy. However, further increase in sensitivity will not yield higher accuracy.
