Improved tribological performance of epoxy composites containing coreshell PE wax@SiO2 nanoparticles

Abstract: The poor tribological performance of epoxy limits its application in the field of lubrication and wear protection, but there is still great potential for improvement. In this paper, polyethylene wax contained by silica core–shell particles was prepared and incorporated into the epoxy resin. The effects of particle content, normal load, and reciprocating linear velocity on the friction and wear properties of epoxy‐based composites were investigated. Due to the lubricating and anti‐wear effect of core–shell part… Show more

“…1,2 However, the three-dimensional network structure also makes epoxy resin inherently brittle and easy to crack, [3][4][5] which leads to its high friction coefficient and poor anti-wear property. [6][7][8] These reasons limit its further application in the field of sliding wear such as moving parts, valve bodies, so it is of great significance to improve the tribological properties of the epoxy resins.…”

“…As a highly crosslinked thermosetting plastic, epoxy resin has high strength and modulus, low shrinkage, excellent heat resistance, chemical and corrosion resistance, which is widely used as the matrix of the coatings, adhesive materials, and so on 1,2 . However, the three‐dimensional network structure also makes epoxy resin inherently brittle and easy to crack, 3–5 which leads to its high friction coefficient and poor anti‐wear property 6–8 . These reasons limit its further application in the field of sliding wear such as moving parts, valve bodies, so it is of great significance to improve the tribological properties of the epoxy resins.…”
