Improvement of Hemocompatibility of Polycaprolactone Film Surfaces with Zwitterionic Polymer Brushes

Abstract: Polycaprolactone (PCL) has been widely adopted as a scaffold biomaterial, but further improvement of the hemocompatibility of a PCL film surface is still needed for wide biomedical applications. In this work, the PCL film surface was functionalized with zwitterionic poly(3-dimethyl(methacryloyloxyethyl) ammonium propane sulfonate) (P(DMAPS)) brushes via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) for enhancing hemocompatibility. Kinetics study revealed an approximately linear increase in graf… Show more

“…As we known, the biocompatibility of materials surfaces can be obtained by modified with special functional groups, which include Phosphate ion, Sulfonate ion, Zwitterionic structures [29][30][31]. In our case, the silica NPs were modified with phosphonic acid.…”

“…Therefore, the peak of N1s was fitted and deconvoluted into two peaks at 401.5 eV and 399.1 eV (Fig. 2), which represent the zwitterionic quaternary ammonium in PDMAPS and amide bonds of the peptides [52], respectively. The peak intensity at 401.5 eV was weakened and the peak intensity at 399.1 eV was enhanced along the gradient position.…”
