Improvement of “Turbula” Mixer

Abstract

One of the most widespread mixer in the world is "Turbula" design of the Swiss company of Willy A.Bachoven. The mixer uses a block diagram of a six-link spatial mechanism with rotary joints, one of the links of which is a container that makes complex movement and which has been used to mix materials since 1984. In our country, many enterprises produce a similar design called a laboratory mixer C 2 Turbula, for example, “Vibrotekhnik” company. However, over the 35 year period of use, the design of the mixer, neither abroad, nor in our country, has undergone any major improvements that improve the operational and production properties of the mixer. This article is devoted to the development of designs in three versions, significantly expanding and improving the functionality of the mixer. To eliminate the disadvantages of the Turbula mixer, we proposed a design scheme for “Turbula-KShA” mixer, in which the support of the second fork is made movable and height-adjustable. Using the base of Turbula mixer, we have developed three new, more advanced designs of “Turbula-KShA” mixers based on a seven-link spatial mechanism with rotary joints, of which one of the two racks has one movable. Mixers can have containers of various volumes, operate continuously, fabricate and assemble with less accuracy, significantly intensify the process of mixing materials both in removable containers and continuously. We can hope that this is only the initial stage of the practical use of the mechanism in technology.
