Improving data collection, documentation, and workflow in a dementia screening study

Abstract: BackgroundA clinical study team performing three multicultural dementia screening studies identified the need to improve data management practices and facilitate data sharing. A collaboration was initiated with librarians as part of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) informationist supplement program. “…We therefore created an eighth module to provide strategies for libraries to initiate RDM services locally. We discussed likely partners and strategies for implementation and included both those that had been successful in our own institution [10, 18] as well as other institutions [35]. Of those librarians interviewed, three were able to teach within the timeframe of the pilot, and so formed the pilot cohort for the Teaching Toolkit.…”

“…My library, located in an academic medical center, has supported CRDM through National Library of Medicine informationist projects by collaborating with clinical research teams to improve data management practices [39] and, more recently, by serving as the front line of support for REDCap (an electronic data capture system for storing research data) by offering consultations and comprehensive training [40]. Through REDCap training, I identified a need to expand my knowledge of CRDM to better support the needs of our research community.…”
