Improving E-Banking Security with Biometrics: Modelling User Attitudes and Acceptance

Abstract: Despite the widespread success of online banking, there remains a reluctance to use it primarily because of uncertainty and security concerns. This study evaluates the potential of biometric authentication for online banking (bbanking) as a way of improving adoption and use of online banking. To this end, we extend Davis's core TAM model adding self-efficacy and user perceptions of biometric security. Using structural equation modelling techniques, this study revealed that user perceptions of biometrics securi… Show more

“…The possibility of using biometric authentication for e-banking to enhance the ebanking adoption and utilization in UK using TAM model was analyzed in [35], in their study, they considered two more parameters to the biometric security. The causes of the limited acceptance of mobile payments in developed countries were studied in [38], the study was based on conducting quantitative study based on applying (UTAUT) model to explore the factors affecting nonusers' intentions to adopt remote mobile payment in the United Kingdom.…”

“…For example, biometric adoption was examined in the context of firehouses (Carpenter et al 2008), airports (Perakslis and Wolk 2005;Pranic et al 2009), hotel industries (Kim et al 2008;Murphy and Rottet 2009) and financial institutions (Breward et al 2009;Tassabehji and Kamala 2009). The researchers were optimistic that biometrics will eventually become a superior technology due to its positive outlook, confident attitude and intention to use by the subjects in their studies.…”

“…Biometrics authentication systems have been evaluated against a rich set of metrics that incorporate both performance and usability aspects [10]. User attitudes have been explored [14][19] [30], but relatively little attention has been paid to empirical comparison of the usability of biometric authentication methods. Toledano et.…”
