Improving soft magnetic properties of Mn-Zn ferrite by rare earth ions doping

Abstract: Mn-Zn ferrites doped with different Sm 2 O 3 , Gd 2 O 3 , Ce 2 O 3 or Y 2 O 3 were prepared by traditional ceramic technology using industrial pre-sintered powders. A small amount of Sm 2 O 3 , Gd 2 O 3 , Ce 2 O 3 or Y 2 O 3 can significantly improve the microstructure and magnetic properties. The single spinel phase structure can be maintained with the doping amount up to 0.07 wt.%. A refined grain structure and uniform grain size distribution can be obtained by doping. For all rare earth oxides, a small amou… Show more

“…Recently, rare earth (RE) elements have received much attention from ferrite industries. 6,7 Different kinds of RE elements, such as gadolinium (Gd), 8 dysprosium (Dy), 9,10 neodymium (Nd), 11 samarium (Sm), [12][13][14][15][16] lanthanum (La), 17 terbium (Tb), 10,18,19 cerium (Ce), 18,[20][21][22] etc., have been introduced into different types of ferrites. The obtained results reveal that, by introducing a small amount of RE 2 O 3 to substitute Fe 2 O 3 , modifications of both the structure and the magnetic properties can be obtained.…”

“…Such characteristics may be improved with the addition of rare earth metals. Researchers have examined effects on structures and magnetic outcomes by accumulation of Sm, Gd, La, Ce and Y [10][11][12]. For different electrical and microwave properties lanthanum doped spinel ferrites have gained attention of researchers [12].…”

“…To date, a wide range of soft magnetic materials has been developed for microwave absorption purpose. To name a few, Co-ferrite 8 , Ni-ferrite, NiZn-ferrite 9 , MnZn-ferrite 10 , MgZn-ferrite 9,11 and other substituted soft ferrites 12 . Nanocrystalline spinel ferrites exhibit significant changes in the cationic distribution; thus, resulting in improved magnetic properties as compared to their bulk counterpart.…”
