a Microencapsulated phase change materials (MePCMs) using melamine-formaldehyde resin/SiO 2 as shell were investigated in this paper. Organically modified SiO 2 particles were employed to stabilize Pickering emulsion, and in situ polymerization of melamine and formaldehyde was carried out to form hybrid shell. The performances of resultant MePCMs with hybrid shell were investigated comparatively with the MePCMs with polymer shell. SiO 2 particles raise the microencapsulation efficiency by improving the stability of emulsion and providing a precipitation site for melamine-formaldehyde resin. Also, the mechanical strength, thermal reliability, and anti-osmosis performance of MePCMs were improved significantly by SiO 2 particles in the shell. Our study shows that Pickering emulsion is a simple and robust template for MePCMs with polymer-inorganic hybrid shell.

Preparation of Colored Microcapsule Phase Change Materials with Colored SiO2 Shell for Thermal Energy Storage and Their Application in Latex Paint Coating

This article reports the design and manufacture of colored microcapsules with specific functions and their application in architectural interior wall coating. Utilizing reactive dyes grafted SiO2 shell to encapsulate paraffin through interfacial polymerization and chemical grafting methods, this experiment successfully synthesized paraffin@SiO2 colored microcapsules. The observations of surface morphology demonstrated that the colored microcapsules had a regular spherical morphology and a well-defined core-shell structure. The analysis of XRD and FT-IR confirmed the presence of amorphous SiO2 shell and the grafting reactive dyes, and the paraffin possessed high crystallinity. Compared with pristine paraffin, the thermal conductivity of paraffin@SiO2 colored microcapsules was significantly enhanced. The results of DSC revealed that the paraffin@SiO2 colored microcapsules performed high encapsulation efficiency and desirable latent heat storage capability. Besides, the examinations of UV-vis and TGA showed that the paraffin@SiO2 colored microcapsules exhibited good thermal reliability, thermal stability, and UV protection property. The analysis of infrared imaging indicated that the prepared latex paint exhibited remarkable temperature-regulated property. Compared with normal interior wall coatings, the temperature was reduced by about 2.5 °C. With such incomparable features, the paraffin@SiO2 colored microcapsules not only appeared well in their solar thermal energy storage and temperature-regulated property, but also make the colored latex paint coating have superb colored fixing capabilities.

In this study, lambda-cyhalothrin (LC) used as a pesticide was microencapsulated with polyurethaneurea (PUU) at 55°C temperature for 180 min. Wall thickness and dimensions of the microcapsules, the effect of mixing speed on the capsule size, active substance release times of LC-PUU microencapsules under UV rays and alcohol/water medium, microencapsulation yields and the effect of microencapsulated active substance on the red spider on peppermint plant leaves (mentha piperita) were investigated. The microcapsule yield was found 77.4-85.5%, also capsule shell thickness was 512.3-724.5 nm. The highest release percentage of the microcapsules was found to be 35.00% at 20°C for 4 h under UV light. When the LC-PUU microcapsules applied to the peppermint plant leaves (mentha piperita) which contained a two-spotted red spider mites (tetranychus urticae), it remained active for 8 weeks and during this period no insect formation was observed on the peppermint leaves.
