In situ spectroelectrochemical behaviour of nanocrystalline TiO2 thin films electrode fabricated by pulsed laser deposition

Abstract: Nanocrystalline titanium oxide thin films have been successfully deposited on ITO coated glass by pulsed laser ablation of metallic Ti target in O-3/O-2 ambient gases. The intercalation of Li ions in the anatase TiO2 film electrode is examined by cyclic voltammetry. The electrochromic behaviour of TiO2 electrode is investigated by in-situ visible transmittance measurement, and two absorption bands at 420 and 650 nm are observed. The absorption falling and rising in color changing with excellent revisibility is… Show more

“…2(b), a couple of peaks were observed at 1.18 and 2.33 V versus Li/Li + at the scan rate of 0.001 V s −1 , exhibiting a typical feature of TiO 2 electrode [12,13]. They cor- responded to the insertion and the extraction processes of Li for 3D TiO 2 .…”

“…As typical cathode materials used in rechargeable lithium batteries, TiO 2 and Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 were promising storage lithium materials [12][13][14][15][16][17]. Recently, we reported electrochemical characterization of 3D ordered macroporous (3DOM) anatase TiO 2 electrode by a colloidal crystal templating approach combining with a high temperature calci- nating, and found the destruction of 3DOM TiO 2 film when Li ions are inserted into TiO 2 , indicating that it is rather difficult to realize 3D batteries with using 3DOM anatase TiO 2 electrodes [12].…”

“…Finally, when power requirement is an important parameter, such as in display or memory applications, the memory effect may be considered and electrochromes that do not require a continuous potential to maintain their colored state, are used. Many metal oxides express electrochromism 7 ' 8 but only oxides of tungsten 2 ' 3 ' 9 , iridium 10 , molybdenum 11 , vanadium 12 , titanium 13 , niobium 14 , cobalt 15 , tin 16 , copper 17 and iron 18 have significant activity beyond the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum (>700 nm). Tungsten oxide is by far the most widely employed electrochrome in visible applications.…”
