In vitro and in vivo validation of a new three‐dimensional fringe projection‐based device (AEVA‐HE) dedicated to skin surface mapping

Abstract: Background: Aging signs are much visible on the surface of the skin that presents different changes: cheeks start to sag, more and deeper wrinkles appear, and pigmentation spots increase. Face diagnostic to recommend products includes assessing cutaneous micro-relief or the micro-depressive network on the face. Furthermore, there is an increasing demand for clinical and instrumental methods to prove the efficacy of anti-aging treatments. As a result, very accurate and sensitive three-dimensional (3D) devices a… Show more

“…A previous paper 33 showed that this recently developed device 34 provides data of a good similarity with those obtained by the Dermatop™ Instrument. Accordingly, the potential of this new Aeva‐HE™ device to correlate with expert's evaluations and to being integrated in the screening process of prototypes of anti‐aging products, needed to be explored.…”

“…As nomad device, it allows a usage outside laboratories or consulting rooms contrary to some existing methods 17–19 . The relevance between objective measurements acquired with the SkinCam® device and the self‐perception of the volunteers is an important and sincere link/relationship between patients and scientific demonstration, possibly adapted to teleconsultation in the future.…”

“…As nomad device, it allows a usage outside laboratories or consulting rooms contrary to some existing methods. [17][18][19] The relevance Beyond scars, extending its use to monitor dynamic pathologies such as acne, 24 to follow its severity and a possible identification of lesions (including scarring acne) is a promising approach to follow and adjust treatment between visits. Such aspect is currently in progress and its findings will be the object of a future paper.…”
