In Vitro and in Vivo Evaluation of Buccal Bioadhesive Films Containing Salbutamol Sulphate

Abstract: The aim of present study was to prepare and evaluate buccal bioadhesive films of salbutamol sulphate (SS) for the treatment of asthma. The films were designed to release the drug for a prolonged period of time so as to reduce the frequency of administration of the available conventional dosage forms of SS. The different proportions of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (SCMC) and Carbopol 940P (CP 940P) were used for the preparation of films. Carbopol was used to incorporate the desired bioadhesiveness in the films… Show more

“…The CMC affinity with water was observed when reduced contents of carbopol (cross-linked polyacrylate polymer) and increased sodium carboxymethyl cellulose contents were applied for strips production, and the swelling index also increased [28] . This effect was also observed with the increase of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose contents [9] .…”

“…Some authors developed fast dissolving oral films [2,11,30] , while others bioadhesive films [9,28] which can that take minutes or hours to release the active compound of interest. No official guidance time is referenced for oral fast disintegrating films/strips [1,3] .…”

“…Mikro ortam pH'si, küçük beherlerin içinde bulunan filmlerin üzerine 5 mL pH 6,8 fosfat tamponu eklendikten bir süre sonra (6-8 saat) pH metre kullanılarak ölçülür. 19,20 Yüzey pH'si; filmler distile su ile nemlendirildikten sonra kombine pH elektrodu kullanılarak ölçülür. Filmlerin oral mukoza pH'sine etkisinin değerlendirilmesi bakımından önemlidir.…”
