In vitro antiviral activity of dieckol and phlorofucofuroeckol-A isolated from edible brown alga Eisenia bicyclis against murine norovirus

Abstract: This research was conducted to develop effective and safe marine-derived antiviral compounds against norovirus. The ethyl acetate (EtOAc)-extract from Eisenia bicyclis exhibited strong antiviral activity against murine norovirus (MNV) as a norovirus surrogate. Among the phlorotannins from E. bicyclis, dieckol (DE) and phlorofucofuroeckol-A (PFF) were known to possess the strongest antibacterial activity. In this study, DE and PFF were evaluated for antiviral activity against MNV. DE and PFF exhibited strong an… Show more

“…This insightful paper outlines the approaches necessary for using VCD in the determination of absolute conguration. 537 The rst asymmetric synthesis of (À)-dolastatrienol (14-hydroxydolasta-1(15),7,9-triene) 538 was reported 539 along with a concise synthesis of dictyodendrins A and F. 540 Additionally, there were many papers and reviews dealing with the biological properties of brown algal polyphenolics [541][542][543][544][545][546][547][548][549][550][551][552][553][554][555][556][557] and carotenoids. 15,[558][559][560][561][562] 6 Red algae…”

“…Over the last few years, there have been more investigations in the research into new bioactive natural molecules and valuable metabolites from seaweeds having an economic impact. For example, sulfated anionic polysaccharides have been reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory (Mhadhebi et al 2014), antioxidant (Costa et al 2011, Chale-Dzul et al 2015, antiviral (Eom et al 2015), antimicrobial (Kantachumpoo and Chirapart 2010), and antiproliferative (Lowenthal and Fitton 2015;Ermakova et al 2016) activities. Proteins also exhibit a potent bioactivity as antioxidant, antityrosinase, antihypertensive, anticoagulant, and antitumor (Suetsuna et al 2004;Heo et al 2005;Bondu et al 2015).…”

“…These fine particles could be composed of both organic and inorganic compounds, and vary in size and composition based on et al 2016). Some of these algae are commonly consumed as functional foods owing to their nutraceutical properties (Eom et al 2015, Lee et al 2015a, 2015b, Sanjeewa et al 2016b. They are a source of various functional ingredients, such as fucoidans, phycocoloides, fucoxanthins, and manny different polyphenolic compounds (Lee et al 2015a, 2015b, Fernando et al 2017b.…”
