“…The phytochemical screening of methanolic extract of leaf and fruit of F. jangomas showed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, flavonoids, phenols (6) and these antioxidant phytochemicals of F. jangomas may be responsible for the observed hepatoprotective activity and the active metabolites present in extract gives nutrition to the hepatocytes. The phytochemicals in F. jangomas extract may also inhibit lipid peroxidation process, stabilize the hepatocellular membrane and improve the detoxification or excretion capacities (10). Hence, overall results indicates that methanolic extract of F. jangomas leaf and fruit possess a potent hepatoprotective activity against paracetamol induced hepatic damage.…”

“…Cytotoxicity assay was performed using MTT-[3-(4, 5dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide salt]. The cells were treated with different concentrations (10,20,40,80,160, 320 µg/ml) of the plant extract and the absorbance was recorded using Spectramax I3X Plate reader at 550 nm.…”
