In Vivo Delivery ofTinospora cordifoliaRoot Extract Preventing Radiation-Induced Dystrophies in Mice Ovaries

Abstract: Unconscious and unplanned radiation exposures are a severe threat to gonads particularly ovaries. The present study aims at finding radioprotective effect of Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers root extract (TCRE) in ovaries. Swiss albino mice were divided into four groups: Group 1 served as “normal” and is administered double distilled water and Group 2 is given TCRE with optimum dosage selected as 75 mg/mice. Group 3 serving the purpose of “irradiated control” were exposed to 2.5 Gy gamma radiation. Group 4 … Show more

“…Co-treatment with P. oleracea showed effective prevention in lipid peroxidation. Our findings are agreed with the records of Sharma [61]. The anti-oxidant activity of P. oleracea was the main cause of the reduction in lipid oxidation.…”

“…The data from the present study suggest that lipid peroxidation is associated with Cd toxicity and that TCME co-treatment was found to be effective in preventing lipid peroxidation. The present findings are in line with the report of Sharma [37]. Protein carbonyl content serves as a measure of oxidative stress, where highly reactive oxygen species react with carbonylatable amino acid side chains of proteins.…”

“…Irradiation of mice resulted in the elevation of biochemical parameters whereas; pretreatment with Tinospora cordifolia restored such alteration compared with radiation alone treated group [85] . Pretreatment with the extract of Tinospora cordifolia ameliorated the irradiation induced histopathological changes in mice ovarian tissue showing its protective effect against gamma radiation induced tissue damage [84] .…”
