In vivo imaging of retinal hemodynamics with OCT angiography and Doppler OCT

Abstract: Abstract:Retinal hemodynamics is important for early diagnosis and precise monitoring in retinal vascular diseases. We propose a novel method for measuring absolute retinal blood flow in vivo using the combined techniques of optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography and Doppler OCT. Doppler values can be corrected by Doppler angles extracted from OCT angiography images. A three-dimensional (3D) segmentation algorithm based on dynamic programming was developed to extract the 3D boundaries of optic disc ves… Show more

“…In addition, OCT-A enables also functional assessment of blood vessels in the retina and choroid, without the need of an intravenous dye. 6 Recently, OCT-A is widely used in the diagnosis of neovascular AMD. Based on the motion contrast in the different structural layers (superficial and deep vascular plexuses, avascular retina, choriocapillaris), OCT-A allows precise visualization of CNV -dimensions and morphology.…”

“…[1][2][3] The quality of images is vital for OCT. In reality, since OCT is based on low-coherence interferometry, [4][5][6] it inevitably brings speckle noise to OCT images.…”

“…With the developments of laser and optics, various optical imaging approaches are becoming the primary tools for intravital imaging over the last decades. The advantages in terms of superior spatiotemporal resolution, multichannel parallel detection, and time‐lapse dynamic monitoring permit us to monitor blood flow dynamics , tracking angiogenesis, tumor growth and interventional treatment , etc. for small living animals.…”
