In vivo study and thermodynamic investigation of two lanthanum complexes, La(dpp)3 and La(XT), for the treatment of bone resorption disorders

Abstract: Lanthanum could act as a preventative measure against bone resorption disorders; two compounds are thoroughly investigated both in vivo and ex vivo as potential oral drug candidates.

“…14 Interestingly, the La element that easily substitutes for the Ca element in HA crystals is found in human bones and can remarkably regulate bone biomineralization and metabolism. 15,16 Lanthanum-based complexes or compounds have been employed as active agents to treat bone density diseases, which stimulate bone formation without accelerating bone resorption. 17 Notably, the biological properties of rare earth elements (REEs) are believed to be hormetic concentration-related effects.…”

“…The fascinating growth of lanthanide coordination chemistry and supramolecular chemistry during the last two decades have contributed to great success in various fields like hybrid materials, 1 luminescent sensor 2 and therapeutic applications. 3 The lanthanide metal ions have larger ionic-radii, higher coordination number (6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12) compared to transition metal ions, 4 and their versatile coordination chemistry have offered potential applications in the design of intelligent lanthanide complexes, 5,6 Lanthanum complexes have been used as active agents in the treatment of bone resorption disorders. 7,8 In recent years, metal complexes with pyridine based hydrazones have drawn immense attention due to their versatile applications.…”

“…The structural spectral variations in the spectrum domain were recorded by UV-Vis absorption spectra. Although they have comparable properties, lanthanum ions have different behavior because their ionic radii are different and differently populated with electrons in the 4f layer, so their compounds present adsorption at different wavelengths, with variations for the allowed transitions [1,16].…”

“…Lanthanide complexes exhibit special magnetic, optical and catalytic properties [13][14][15][16][17][18]. To create a new generation of metal complexes and understand their biological behavior we must evaluate the complexes and their ligands for their physicochemical and optical properties.…”
