Abstract: Background: This study was conducted to provide evidence on the current status of breast cancer and its incidence trend in Eastern Mediterranean Region during 1998-2019. Also, this study aimed to investigate the association between the incidence of breast cancer and Human Development Index and some factors related to this index, including total fertility rate, and obesity, using a meta-analysis. “…The prevalence of malignant tumours was higher in this study with 139 cases (27.5%) than in comparable studies from North Africa, the Middle East [ 23 , 24 ], Europe [ 25 , 26 ], or Iran [ 27 ]. This phenomenon can be explained by the specialization of the authors RR and AS in this field and the increased awareness of the risk population in the region.…”

“…It could be the result of training programs for nurses and midwives started by Dr. Rauofi Rokai in 2016. Mastitis has been associated with lactation in 85.7% ( Table 2 ) of cases, most likely a cause that this rate is higher as in the neighbouring countries [ 23 25 , 27 , 29 , 30 ]. The reasons may be a long breast feeding time and inadequate hygiene measurements.…”

“…In line with our study, a meta-analysis in the period 2005-2019 revealed that the ASR of breast cancer had been increasing in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO). 12 The Breast cancer ASR for Asia in the present study was higher than that for EMRO. An increasing trend of breast cancer incidence rates was also noted in Hong Kong in the period 1983-2008 13 and in China during 2000-2015.…”

“…According to the GLOBOCAN 2012 findings, Lebanon had the highest incidence rates of all types of cancers in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (204.0 and 193.0 per 100,000 individuals in males and females, respectively) [ 16 ]. The differences between the countries, in terms of the incidence and burden of breast cancer, could be due to the different levels of exposure or the prevalence of risk factors in each country, implementation of screening programs, accessibility to the screening programs in different areas of a country, willingness of people to participate in these programs or improvements in the cancer registries [ 14 , 17 ]. Moreover, Lebanon has developed breast cancer screening guidelines for females over 40 years of age, which recommends annual mammography for those without a family history of breast cancer and annual screening 10 years before the age at which cancer was first diagnosed in those with a family history of breast cancer [ 18 ].…”
