Incidência do pênfigo vulgar ultrapassa a do pênfigo foliáceo em região endêmica para pênfigo foliáceo: análise de série histórica de 21 anos

Abstract: The overall results cover a period of 21 years, with 103 cases of pemphigus vulgaris and 163 cases of pemphigus foliaceus. An evaluation of the trend lines regarding incidence has shown that pemphigus foliaceus is decreasing while pemphigus vulgaris is increasing. There was great variation in the age ranges, with persistence of the minimum range, from 10 to 20 years old, for pemphigus foliaceus (mean age = 32.1 years old), and clear downward in the minimum age for pemphigus vulgaris (mean age = 41.5 years old)… Show more

“…20,21 PF cases have shown a significant increase over the last century in geographic areas in Brazil and worldwide, due to its endemic form, and have experienced apparent epidemiological changes, which resulted in an increase in the incidence of PV cases even in regions considered traditionally endemic for PF, with the percentage of PV cases reaching 91.15% in a sample of 1,560 pemphigus patients. 22,23 …”

“…A large number of PV and PF cases are diagnosed in the northeastern region of the state of São Paulo each year. [8,9,14] We have investigated some viruses in patients with PV and compared them in patients with PF in this prevalent area for both PV and PF. We decided to study HSV1/2, CMV and EBV to confirm that these viruses are associated with pemphigus, mainly with PV.…”

“…Its distribution is worldwide, occurs similarly in both sexes, has a peak incidence in the fourth to sixth decade of life and can affect any age group. In the northeast region of the state of São Paulo (Brazil), the PV has become more frequent, compared to PF, affecting younger patients [4]. Although the morphology of pemphigus is well established, the etiology for the loss of immune tolerance is still under investigation [5].…”
