Increasing the effectiveness of food supply chain logistics through digital transformation

Abstract: During the COVID-19 crisis, there were many restrictions to transportation. Due to that, a significant disruption in the food supply chain has emerged. The transportation of the fresh food and maintaining the quality, from farm to the table or distributing and then collecting from the warehouses and delivering to the consumer, has become crucial. “…The conditions of functioning in the economy controlled by the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated, and in some areas even forced, the introduction of digital solutions. Six articles were qualified for this category, but many of the publications we analyzed from other categories began with the sentence "The COVID-19 pandemic significantly influenced the development of digital transformation..." (among others, [6,107]). Therefore, many results related to this research area should be expected to be published in the coming year.…”

“…Efficiency studies in the context of digitalization, though mostly approached conceptually, include a few practical applications. These studies primarily explore how existing digital applications are used and their impact (Kuntsman and Arenkov, 2019;Zhong and Ren, 2023;Sandu and Voiku, 2019;Alesiuniene et al, 2021;Kimberly et al, 2022). The last aspect of internal dynamics is the notion of 'flexibility.'…”

“…The application of digitalization in the supply chain improves the safety, traceability, and quality risk control of products. Taking agriculture as an example, concerning issues such as irrigation, fertilizers application, pesticide usage, and residue testing of harmful substances in the soil, enterprises leverage Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor the production and storage status of agricultural products in throughout the entire supply chain [3]. Specifically, businesses can utilize digital censors and labels to track key information, including temperature, humidity, and pesticide residue, ensuring the safety of products throughout the supply chain.…”
