“…The upward peak at 535 cm'1 arises from the triplet state of naphthalene-dg and correlates with Clarke's work (2). The downward peaks at 782 and 630 cm'1 can be assigned to the b3u out-of-plane mode for naphthalene and naphthalene-d8, respectively (6,7), and reflect the origins of the newly created absorptions at 681 and 535 cm'1. The ratioed spectrum then leads to the unambiguous assignment that naphthalene and naphthalene-d8 are present in the mixture.…”
