This review article examines why and how low‐income voters decide to vote for a political candidate. A total of 163 articles in the last 80 years (1944–2023) have been identified through a systematic literature review. Thereafter, the fragmented literature has been organized using a fusion of 3W1H and TCCM (Theory, context, characteristics, and method) frameworks to obtain a comprehensive overview of the low‐income voters' behaviour. Accordingly, the study has explained the voting contexts of poor consumers. Besides, the fundamental theories and methods employed in this research domain have been identified. This study revealed three characteristics of ‘voting choice’ of low‐income consumers (group identity, communication characteristics, and political environment characteristics) that have been further classified under several sub‐themes. This review article pioneers to provide an integrated and organized analysis of the literature on the voting behaviour of low‐income consumers, highlighting critical research gaps in theories, contexts, methods, and antecedents that future researchers can examine to extend the discourse in this realm.

Electoral periods have always been a challenge for representative parties to gain new supporters, but also to get closer to the population, and the context of the Coronavirus pandemic has been a barrier to traditional election campaigns, requiring their relocation to the online environment. The main target of the online campaigns was the young population, while the street election campaigns wanted to convince the majority of the adult population, who do not spend much of their time in the online field. The central objective of the study was to identify voting trends at the national level, but also at the regional level. The secondary objective of the study was to identify the influence of national minorities in the Romanian legislative elections, based on a significant population of ethnic Hungarians in certain counties. The aim of the study was to provide a point of support for electoral statistics and to be translocated to cartographic materials, to facilitate their understanding. The results of the study certify that there is a regionalization of the electoral results, with small exceptions, and the party representing the ethnic Hungarians won detachedly in the counties where they are the majority.

The impact of national values on the prevention and control of COVID-19: An empirical study

The outbreak of COVID-19 at the end of 2019 has become the most devastating public health event of the 21st century. The different performances of governments and people in different countries and regions show that national values may play an important role in the prevention and control of COVID-19. Based on data from the seventh wave of World Values Survey (WVS-7) and the Human Freedom Index (HFI) report in 2020, three national value factors are extracted in this manuscript, including religious belief, government satisfaction and individual freedom. Then ordinary least squares regression (OLS) regression model is constructed to explore the influence of these three value factors on the prevention and control of COVID-19 and some heterogeneity analysis is implemented. The results show that religious belief and individual freedom significantly increased the COVID-19 infection rate, while government satisfaction significantly reduced the COVID-19 infection rate. The study findings have the ability to hold up after a range of robustness. For countries and regions with different COVID-19 testing policies, the influence of national values is different. Only in countries and regions with high testing rate policies and complete systems of the prevention and control of COVID-19, the influence of national values is significant. Based on these findings, a series of targeted policy recommendations for building national values in the post-epidemic era are proposed.
