Indoor air quality of everyday use spaces dedicated to specific purposes—a review

Abstract: According to literature data, some of the main factors which significantly affect the quality of the indoor environment in residential households or apartments are human activities such as cooking, smoking, cleaning, and indoor exercising. The paper presents a literature overview related to air quality in everyday use spaces dedicated to specific purposes which are integral parts of residential buildings, such as kitchens, basements, and individual garages. Some aspects of air quality in large-scale car parks,… Show more

“…It has been indicated that IAQ in residential areas or buildings is significantly affected by three primary factors [12,13]: (i) Outdoor air quality, (ii) human activity in buildings, and (iii) building and construction materials, equipment, and furniture. It is known that outdoor contaminant concentrations and building airtightness have a great influence on IAQ, due to the possibility of transportation of contaminants from outdoors to indoors [14].…”

“…The effect of these factors is that the level of chemical compounds in the indoor environment is much higher than in ambient (atmospheric) air. 7,9 According to the United Nations, there are more than 3.5 million premature deaths every year due to household air pollution. 10 Hence, the main objective of this study is to collect data of indoor air pollution in the country, to learn more about residential IAQ in AD Emirate, and what can be done to either help bring these numbers down or eliminate the air pollutants to the best of our ability.…”

“…The source of air pollution in the room may be: living organisms (e.g. people, fungi) [15]- [17] building materials and elements of interior design (e.g. furniture and linings, for the production of which solvents, impregnates, compounds emitted by painting paints or asbestos, televisions, computers), ventilation and air conditioning systems (e.g.…”
