“…However, arbitrary milestones during the labor process can provide the woman and her health care providers an opportunity to determine if this method of induction is optimal for her. For example, Rodrigues et al (1998) set the goal of their study as a Bishop score of 3 or more points over a 6-hour period for women receiving intravaginal administration of misoprostol.…”

“…Vaginal administration of the synthetic prostaglandin misoprostol, often in the form of fractionated tablet doses (25 µg) of the anti-ulcer product Cytotec ® , has also been widely reported for cervical ripening (Furukan et al, 2007;Rodrigues et al, 1998;Sanchez-Ramos et al, 1998;Sharma et al, 2005;Zieman et al, 1997). As with dinoprostone, a hydrogel insert for sustained-release vaginal administration of misoprostol has also been developed, marketed under the brand names Mysodelle ® /Myspess ® /Misodel ® and offering administration rates of approximately 7 g/h misoprostol (Miller et al, 2016;Powers et al, 2008;Stephenson and Wing, 2015;Wing, 2008;Wing et al, 2013).…”

“…However in the last few years there has been considerable interest in the use of misoprostol for cervical ripening and labour induction [6][7][8][9][10][11] . Results of published trial suggest that misoprostol was both safe and effective but optimum dose and timing of administration of this medication for labour induction have not been clearly determined 12 .…”
