Influence of aluminium oxidation on insulation properties of oxide coating

Abstract: The article presents the influence of aluminium oxidation parameters on the insulating properties of oxide coatings on aluminium strips of electrical windings. The effect of H 2 SO 4 electrolyte concentration, its temperature and anode current density on the value of unit breakdown voltage was determined. A significant influence of the contact surface area of the measuring electrode with the coating on the breakdown voltage was found. The error of breakdown voltage measurement does not exceed 5% if the contact… Show more

“…For example, 1050 is aluminium with a minimum purity of 99.5%, and it maintains a high corrosion resistance [21]. It is also possible to use an electrolytic oxide coating on aluminium for low-voltage electric insulation, which also has the advantage of protecting the aluminium from further corrosion [22,23]. The price of aluminium and copper showed historically similar trends between 2011 and 2021, but the cost of aluminium is significantly lower by ∼67% [24].…”

“…Aluminum alloys have high friction coefficient wherefore without appropriate surface treatment it is unsuitable as friction material. To improve poor wear or/and corrosion resistance of aluminum, various methods such as hard anodizing [1][2][3][4], sol-gel coating [5,6], lubricating additives [7,8], anodic oxidation [9][10][11] and polymer coating [12,13], have been applied. The tribological partner in the sliding nodes can be a plastic (for acetabular bearings, guides and seals) with selected properties improved in different directions.…”
