Influence of Butyrate Loaded Clinoptilolite Dietary Supplementation on Growth Performance, Development of Intestine and Antioxidant Capacity in Broiler Chickens

Abstract: The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary butyrate loaded clinoptilolite (CLI-B) on growth performance, pancreatic digestive enzymes, intestinal development and histomorphology, as well as antioxidant capacity of serum and intestinal mucosal in chickens. Two hundred forty 1-day-old commercial Arbor Acres broilers were randomly assigned to 4 groups: CON group (fed basal diets), SB group (fed basal diet with 0.05% sodium butyrate), CLI group (fed basal diet with 1% clinoptilolite), and CLI-B gro… Show more

“…A reduction in CD may reduce intestinal maintenance requirement, thereby reserving stores of energy and protein for use in muscle deposition [ 44 ]. These results suggest that the absorption function of broilers in the LE group is superior to the secretion function, which is expected to improve the capacity for digestion and absorption of nutrients from the intestine [ 45 , 46 ]. The early LP exhibited improvement in subsequent intestinal development with higher VH of the intestine, and LE-LP significantly decreased the CD and enhanced the VH:CD ratio.…”

“…The T-AOC includes the effects of several antioxidant enzymes and related biomolecules with the ability to remove free radicals of a specific organ or a living organism. The level of T-AOC reflects the total antioxidant ability (Wu et al 2016;Attia et al 2017Attia et al , 2018Attia et al , 2019a. In this study, supplemented AAE boosted the T-AOC of serum, liver and spleen to some degree, which might be associated with obvious in vitro antioxidant activity of AAE and increased activity of antioxidant agents and expression of the relevant gene, and decreased levels of lipid peroxidation in vivo.…”

“…T-AOC capacity was expressed as lmol trolox equivalent and lmol trolox equivalent per gram protein of homogenates (mM, lmol TE/g protein). All the above kits have been successfully used in poultry study (Wu et al 2016;Wan et al 2016;Song et al 2018).…”

“…Butyric acid products (including their acid and salt forms) have the potential to replace antibiotic growth promoters as feed additives [8,9]. Supplementation with butyric acid, for example, has been shown to stimulate animal growth by enhancing the proliferation, differentiation, and function of gut tissues in both healthy and sick animals [10].…”
