“…Gabapentin is also effective in a multitude of other symptoms including insomnia [72][73][74], cough [75][76][77], hiccough [78][79][80], nausea [81][82][83], and delirium [84]. The use of steroids may be for multiple reasons, i.e., as an adjuvant but also for non-pain symptoms such as fatigue and anorexia [85,86]. Because steroids are prescribed for many reasons in palliative care, it was difficult from a chart review to clearly determine if the sole reason for prescription was pain relief.…”

“…Dexamethasone significantly decreases appetite loss and weight loss in lung cancer patients treated with chemotherapy, although it has little influence on appetite improvement and weight gain. 25 Although corticosteroid treatment has been associated with low toxicity in several trials, prolonged treatment seems to lead to weakness, delirium, osteoporosis and immunosuppression, all of which are commonly present in advanced cancer patients. 26 However, corticosteroids do seem to improve the quality of life of terminal cancer patients and can be used as palliative therapy.…”

“…STS, with its role in lipid and steroid metabolism, is a candidate gene for growth and feed efficiency traits in cattle (48), while PUDP is involved in nucleotide metabolism (24). In the second cluster, SMYD3 is involved in transcriptional regulation and cellular response to dexamethasone (a corticosteroid hormone) that can affect appetite (49), and KIF26B has a role in cell-signalling (24). Another common gene from the Low group is NDST4, which has a strong association with low abdominal fat content in chicken (50).…”
