“…A large number of studies on the synthesis of composite materials have used amino acids in an anionic form, that is, at pH values above the isoelectric point (pH > 8) [ 17 , 18 , 23 , 25 , 26 ]. However, current enamel and dentin pre-treatment therapeutical procedures (the total-etch technique of tooth surface for chemically adhesive composite restorations), use strong acid-based solutions (pH ≤ 2) [ 27 ]. This environment may lead to a different interaction mechanism not only between the components of the biomimetic composite, but also with the natural tissue being restored.…”

“…Silva et al (25) in their study concluded that there was no increase in strength adhesion with prolonged tooth enamel etching. Our study showed higher values of bond strength using phosphoric acid over a longer time interval of 30 s, noting that in group 3 the highest bond strength was obtained with prior enamel acid-etching for 15 s using smaller brackets bases, while the lowest bond strength was obtained in group 1.…”

“…Prismatic crystallites scatter light due to their refractive index which is slightly higher than that of the surrounding medium but the inter-prismatic crystallites do the same but their index is slightly lower. Hence this arrangement of prisms and interprismatic material causes diffraction of light waves (16).…”
