Influence of inlet water on the biotic and abiotic variables in a fish pond

Abstract: The effects of treated and untreated water inlets with macrophytes on the improvement of water quality and zooplankton community were evaluated in a fish pond with continuous water flow. Water and zooplankton samples were retrieved at four sites during nine months. There were differences (p<0.01) between inlet water from fish pond and inlet water from canal with macrophytes, featuring higher concentrations of nutrient load, mainly TAN and TP in the former. The inlet water from fish pond contained a higher numb… Show more

“…Its widespread distribution has been also reported for other areas in Brazil: northeastern small lakes (Reid and Turner, 1988), marginal lakes of a river in the central region (Neves et al, 2003), southeastern coastal lagoons (Branco et al, 2002), streams, reservoirs and fish ponds from southeastern region (Sampaio et al, 2002;Lucinda et al, 2004;Sipaúba-Tavares et al, 2017), south lagoons of the river floodplain (Rossa and Bonecker, 2003), and riverine rotifers (Serafim-Júnior et al, 2016).

“…This would increase relative availability and increase the degradation rate of methomyl under higher pH values. In an aquaculture system, the pH of water is re duced by the CO 2 emitted by aquatic animals such as fish and the acid produced by nitrifica- tion reactions, and a low pH will have a very adverse effect on fish growth (Sipaúbatavares et al 2016, Kurzbaum et al 2017. Therefore, pH plays an important role in maintaining the stable operation of fishpond systems.…”
