“…In this study, a group of lanthanum-oxide-reinforced heavy metal borate glasses with the chemical formula 0.3CoO-(80-x)B 2 O 3 -19.7PbO-xLa 2 O 3 : x = 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 mol% were investigated in terms of their extensive gamma-ray shielding parameters. Previously, Abul-Magd et al [13] studied the effect of the rare-earth compound lanthanum oxide on the structural, mechanical, and optical properties of a glassy system composed of cobalt-doped heavy metals. Our objective was to conduct a theoretical follow-up analysis on those glass samples in order to provide new skills and information to the scientific community by analyzing their gamma-ray shielding properties.…”

“…The software could calculate the Mass Attenuation Coefficient, μ m , linear attenuation coefficient (μ L ), Half Value Layer, (HVL), Tenth Value Layer (TVL), Effective Atomic Number Zeff, Effective Atomic Cross Section, δ a , Total Electronic Cross Section, δ e , and many other radiation shielding features of a materials. The glass we named in this work as S1, S2, S3, S4 and S5 with chemical compositions and densities given in (Table 1) are fabricated by (Abul-Magd et al, 2021). We made use of Phy-X/PSD to simulate the irradiation of the glasses with gamma ray from Cobalt-60 radionuclide and evaluated the effect of adding La2O3 to the radiation shielding features of the glasses.…”

“…Studies by (Abdel-Ghany et al, 2020) on the influence of iron oxide (Fe2O3) on the optical and the structural properties of some Borate glasses mixed with CaO and Na2O3 found that, the increase in Fe2O3 results in the decrease in the chemical bond energy and the bond force constant in the glass. Borate glasses doped with Cobalt was studied by (Abul-Magd et al, 2021) in order to determine the effect of the rare-earth oxide, Lanthanum Oxide (La2O3) on its properties. The glasses were found optically active and could be utilized for nonlinear optical applications.…”

“…Cobalt ions may enter into the Oxy Fluoro Cobalt Glasses network with divalent (Co 2+ ) or trivalent (Co 3+ ) coordination which can be identified by coloration, and thick blue colour due to (Co 2+ ) ions. The colour of these glasses may also depend on the tetrahedral and octahedral occupancy of cobalt ions in the glass network [14]. The ordering of magnetic moments in cobalt oxide is similar to that of an antiferromagnetic material and CoO is highly stable, when added to these glasses, it improves the sintering behaviour of the glasses offering a wide range of applications in fields like supercapacitors, fuel cells and catalysis [15].…”
